Local History

Benfleet is a town on the Thames Estuary in South East Essex and the area was first settled in Saxon times in the 5th Century AD. The postal code (SS7) covers Benfleet, South Benfleet, Hadligh and Thundersley. The area is home to some historic locations and landmarks including Hadleigh Castle, South Benfleet Old Town and the Battle Of Benfleet between the Vikings and Saxons.

Shopping

There is a good variety of local shops from larger supermarkets through to smaller independant stores and specialist boutiques. If you can't find what you are searching for in Benfleet then there is a large shopping centre complex if you take a 10 minute drive to nearby Basildon.

Entertainment

The area offers something for all the family with outdoor attractions offering woodland and nature walks, historic sites and nearby sandy beaches. Other local attractions include kids soft play, petting farm, seaside amusements, funfair, leisure centre, golf courses, cinema, bingo, snooker halls, fitness centres and a wide choice of pubs and restaurants.

Travel Infrastructure

The area has excellent public transport services. Benfleet has it's own train station and you can arrive in central London within 45 minutes. There also is a wide network of bus routes that run at regular times.
